ICAI The Labs: Innovations in Agro-food Technology.

ICAI The Labs: Innovations in Agro-food Technology. We are thrilled to invite you to a cutting-edge event at the forefront of agricultural technology. In a world where sustainable and efficient agri-food production is paramount, technological advancements are shaping the future of farming. Our event, “Innovations in Agri-food Technology: Advancing 3D Object Tracking and Intelligent Production Control,” brings together researchers from ICAI Labs to explore groundbreaking developments in the field. Join our next ICAI the Labs event and gain insides on the advancements being made in this field.

On Thursday 26th of October between 12:00 and 13:00, ‘ICAI: The Labs’ will have a meetup. Two labs each present their work and discuss challenges and developments in this field.

Our speakers:

David Rapado Rincon – 3D multi-object tracking in highly occluded agri-food environments.

“Detecting and localizing relevant objects in occluded agri-food scenarios requires the use of multi-view perception. However, multi-view perception needs of a method of tracking and associating all the information retrieved over the different viewpoints. In our work, we developed a novel method to build 3D representations of highly occluded environments by using multi-view perception and 3D multi-object tracking.”

Congcong Sun – Intelligent Control for Agri-food Production

The agricultural production system is interdisciplinary and comprises multidimensional components, such as consumer demands, input costs, concerns regarding food safety and environmental impact. Consequently, the intelligent management of agricultural production systems holds significant importance and can aid the sector in achieving goals and targets outlined by international policy frameworks like the EU Green Deal, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the “Soil health and food” mission within the Horizon Europe framework. Given that agricultural production systems also encompass complex systems marked by considerable uncertainties in environmental conditions and substantial variability in plants and products, as typically encountered in agricultural production scenarios, the process of identifying these systems, modeling their dynamics, diagnosing their functionality, and interacting with them to attain specific goals becomes critically important yet challenging. This talk will illustrate the advanced control concepts and methods that contribute to intelligent and autonomous agri-food production. Examples will be provided, including indoor climate control for greenhouse production systems, indoor climate control for livestock barns, autonomous harvesting on arable farm, and autonomous manure cleaning in dairy barn. These examples will effectively highlights the role of control in pursuiting of efficient, sustainable and autonomous agri-food production.

Our labs:

The AI for Agro-Food lab is a collaboration of 4TU (the four universities of technology in The Netherlands) and OnePlanet in cooperation with industry partners and coordinated by Wageningen University & Research. The aim of the lab is to evolve a new generation of ecology-based sustainable agricultural production systems that are supported and enhanced by smart tailored technology.

The lab will provide methods and tools that form the base for both integrated solutions for production systems, as well as sociotechnical scenarios for the transition towards these systems. This lab will be a subset of the larger Synergia crossover program initiated by NWO.
