Launch Pad Career Café in September: A career in the public domain
ICAI Launch Pad:
ICAI has initiated the Launch Pad together with the Netherlands AI Coalition with the aim to connect AI talent with organizations in the Dutch ecosystem by providing a matchmaking process between AI-PhD students and Dutch companies looking for AI talent. There are no costs involved for the students. We do this on a non-profit basis.
We believe that the Netherlands offers great opportunities in the field of AI for our top AI experts.

“What use is your PhD in AI at the police”
About Bas Testerink:
In 2016 I started with a post-doc at the police with the expectation that I would only work there for a year or two. However, 6 years later I still work at the police with no intention of quitting. During my career I have so far participated in the founding of the police’s AI lab, have travelled around the world and am now leading a team of data scientists at the AI lab who work on bringing state-of-the-art AI to the work floor. I have also experienced the bureaucracy and public scrutiny that comes with working for the police. In my talk I will share these experiences to help you make the decision whether working at the police might be something for you as well.
Talk Abstract:
Various people with a PhD in AI or a related fieldwork at the police and none of them have the same job. In this talk we’ll discuss how AI is applied and researched at the police, what role people with a PhD typically have and different benefits and downsides of the police work environment.
