The AI for Energy Grids Lab is focused on developing methods and tools that use grid data to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and reliability of the medium-low voltage grid. It combines the expertise of Alliander data scientists, electrical engineers, and the latest digitalization programs for grid data, with academic expertise on methods from artificial intelligence. The lab’s collaboration network includes all Dutch Distribution system operators, as well as academic institutions such as Delft University of Technology, Radboud University, and the University of Twente.

The AI for Parkinson Lab is researching the use of AI-based tools to process raw wearable sensor and video data into digital biomarkers to monitor Parkinson’s disease in real-life, in order to provide more reliable and sensitive assessments than current clinical assessments. The AI for Parkinson Lab is a collaboration between Radboud UMC, Verily, Radboud University, and the Donders Institute at Radboud University.

AI for Precision Health, Nutrition & Behaviour is a collaboration between Radboud University, OnePlanet Research Center, Radboudumc, Wageningen University & Research and nine industry partners. This lab focuses on the development of AI solutions for encouragement of healthy behaviour in humans, with a specific focus on precision health and nutrition. The first aim of the lab is to increase the richness and quality of health, dietary and behavioural data by monitoring health using various or novel sensors. The second aim is to develop smart AI algorithms and machine learning techniques to extract more relevant outcomes and knowledge from these data. The final aim is to improve the personalized lifestyle feedback generated from these measurement to coach in the direction of healthier behaviour.

The ASM Lab focuses on developing trustworthy AI models, algorithms, and technology for real-time inference, prediction, and control of high-throughput data streams in the semiconductor industry. ASM Lab is a collaboration between ASM Pacific Technology and the AI Department of the Donders Institute at Radboud University.

CARA Lab researches automated segmentation and characterization of intravascular structures and lesions, optimizing OCT-based algorithms to assess physiologic characteristics, high-risk plaque identification, and predicting stent-related complications, with the goal of increasing the usability, reliability, and applicability of intravascular OCT in interventional cardiology through the use of trustworthy AI. The lab is a collaboration between Abbott, Radboud University Medical Center, and Amsterdam University Medical Center.

Donders AI for Neurotech Lab is a collaboration between Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, Radboud University, Phosphoenix, Advanced Bionics, Oneplanet Research Center and Abbott. The lab is working on the development of the next generation AI-driven neurotechnologies. The aim of the researchers is to develop machine learning solutions for brain reading and writing that restore sensory and cognitive function (vision in the blind, audition in the deaf, seizure suppression in epilepsy, as well as communication and control in the paralyzed).

The research at the HEALTHY-AI Lab aims to develop trustworthy, robust artificial intelligence (AI) technology for use in healthcare, with a primary focus on assisting with prostate cancer diagnosis using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and exploring the ethical challenges of achieving trustworthy AI. HEALTHY-AI Lab is a collaboration between Radboud UMC, Siemens Healhtineers, UMC Groningen, and the University of Twente.

The research of the MERAI Lab is about developing AI-supported software solutions for healthcare to improve the accuracy of imaging interpretation in the lung oncology field, reduce the time needed to report scans, and improve the cost-effectiveness of the healthcare system. MERAI Lab is a collaboration between Radboud UMC and MeVis Medical Solutions.

Radboud AI for Health is a collaboration between Radboud University and Radboudumc, and is part of Radboud AI , a campus-wide initiative to improve collaboration and start new projects with AI researchers in Nijmegen. Radboud AI for Health has awarded 6 Ph.D. positions, aimed to bring a variety of AI solutions to the clinic. We hope that a second call for Ph.D. positions can be launched soon. Radboud AI for Health, located in the Radboudumc Innovation Space , will also house BSc and MSc students who perform AI research projects in collaboration with Radboudumc clinicians. Finally, the Lab offers courses to Radboudumc employees who want to learn more about the application of AI in healthcare.

Thira Lab comprised 9 researchers: 6 PhD students and 3 postdocs. The mission of Thira Lab was to perform world-class research to strengthen healthcare with innovative imaging solutions. The lab strived to automatically interpret medical images with the aid of deep learning. Research projects in the lab focused on recognition, detection, and quantification of objects and structures in images, with an initial focus on applications in the area of chest CT, radiography, and retinal imaging.
