Northzone has announced a $30 million Seed investment in CuspAI, an AI-powered platform focused on developing materials for sustainability and clean energy. This funding round includes contributions from Hoxton Ventures, BasisSet Ventures, Localglobe, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and angel investors from DeepMind.

CuspAI was founded by Professor Max Welling, a Machine Learning expert from the University of Amsterdam and former VP at Microsoft Research, alongside Dr. Chad Edwards, a chemist with deep-tech commercialization experience. The platform uses generative AI, deep learning, and molecular simulation to rapidly design and evaluate new materials, accelerating research and development.

Michiel Kotting of Northzone highlighted the untapped potential in material sciences and praised CuspAI’s unique blend of AI and material science expertise. CuspAI has formed a world-class team and partnered with Meta to contribute to open science and climate change solutions.
